Unlicensed Hotels in Patong and Ratsada Face Crackdown by Phuket Officials

by James Josh

Phuket authorities have intensified their crackdown on suspected illegal hotel operations, inspecting two establishments in Patong and Ratsada over allegations of operating without hotel licenses and violating building-use regulations. The inspections, conducted on October 21, 2026, could lead to legal proceedings against the operators.

The coordinated operation was led by Phuket Vice Governor Romdon Hayiawae, accompanied by Mueang Phuket District Chief Siwat Rawangkul, district administrative officials, police officers, and representatives from relevant government agencies. According to information gathered for this Phuket Hotel News report, both establishments were allegedly operating in buildings not authorized for their current commercial use.

Online Room Rentals Under Investigation

One property identified during the inspections was Lucky Residence Phuket Town in Ratsada, where authorities investigated complaints concerning unauthorized daily accommodation rentals.

Officials discovered that rooms were reportedly being advertised through online booking platforms despite the establishment having no registered hotel business license with the Mueang Phuket District Office.

Investigators inspected the premises and collected evidence to determine whether the property’s operations violated applicable hotel and building regulations.

Patong Property Also Targeted

A second establishment in Patong underwent similar scrutiny, although provincial authorities have not disclosed its name or specific operational details.

According to the provincial administration, both inspected properties lacked the required hotel business licenses and were being used for purposes inconsistent with their officially authorized building classifications.

Authorities are currently compiling documentation and evidence before determining appropriate legal proceedings.

Growing Scrutiny of Phuket Accommodation Businesses

The inspections highlight continuing regulatory concerns surrounding accommodation providers offering short-term rentals without the necessary approvals.

While online booking platforms provide convenient access to travelers, properties offering accommodation must still comply with applicable licensing and building-use requirements.

The latest enforcement action underscores the importance of regulatory compliance across Phuket’s competitive hospitality sector. Authorities have yet to announce charges or penalties, and further developments will depend on the evidence collected during the investigations.
