Phuket to Welcome Southeast Asia’s First Tempo by Hilton Hotel

by Kittisak Meepoon

Phuket is preparing to welcome another major international hospitality brand as Hilton announces plans to introduce its first Tempo by Hilton hotel in Southeast Asia. The upcoming Tempo by Hilton Phuket Bang Tao will feature 164 rooms and suites, bringing a contemporary lifestyle concept to one of the island’s most desirable coastal neighborhoods. Scheduled to open during the fourth quarter of 2030, the property will also become one of the brand’s earliest resort-oriented developments worldwide.

The announcement, made on November 2, 2026, follows an agreement between Hilton and Thai property developer Sindhu Development Co., Ltd. As this Phuket Hotel News report highlights, the project reflects growing confidence in Phuket’s tourism industry and increasing demand for accommodations that combine modern design, wellness, flexible working spaces and recreational experiences.

Bang Tao Emerges as a Major Lifestyle Destination

The new hotel will occupy a site along the southern section of Bang Tao, approximately 19 kilometers from Phuket International Airport.

Once recognized primarily for its peaceful beaches, Bang Tao has evolved into a thriving destination featuring upscale restaurants, fashionable beach clubs, shopping complexes and premium residential developments.

Popular attractions such as Porto de Phuket and Boat Avenue have helped transform the neighborhood into a year-round lifestyle hub. Nearby golf courses and entertainment facilities further strengthen its appeal among international visitors.

For Hilton, this combination of coastal scenery and modern conveniences provides an attractive setting for introducing a hospitality brand traditionally associated with urban environments.

What Travelers Can Expect from the New Hotel

Tempo by Hilton Phuket Bang Tao is planned as a low-rise property featuring 164 accommodations, including family rooms and suites.

Guests can expect an all-day dining restaurant, two bars, an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness center. Communal areas will encourage social interaction while accommodating travelers who require comfortable environments for working or relaxing.

The development will emphasize convenience, contemporary aesthetics and personal well-being rather than the conventional resort experience centered exclusively on leisure.

Its design philosophy aims to accommodate guests who want to maintain familiar routines, whether exercising, working remotely or enjoying social activities during their holidays.

Further information regarding architectural features, interior design and specialized guest services is expected closer to the opening date.

Tempo by Hilton Expands Beyond Urban Hotels

Introduced in 2020, Tempo by Hilton targets travelers seeking a balance between professional responsibilities, personal wellness and enjoyable experiences.

The brand opened its first property in New York’s Times Square in 2023 and has subsequently expanded its international development pipeline.

According to Hilton’s announcement, Tempo currently operates 10 hotels globally, with more than 80 additional properties under development.

Upcoming destinations include Germany, Northern Ireland and several Chinese cities, including Beijing, Chengdu, Xiamen and Jiaxing.

The Phuket project marks an important departure from the brand’s predominantly metropolitan positioning, demonstrating Hilton’s intention to bring its lifestyle hospitality approach into established vacation destinations.

Why Hilton Chose Phuket for Its Regional Debut

Maria Ariizumi, Hilton’s vice president of Development for Southeast Asia, identified Phuket’s international reputation and Bang Tao’s expanding leisure offerings as major considerations behind the signing.

The island’s combination of beaches, wellness attractions, restaurants and recreational activities closely aligns with Tempo’s emphasis on balanced lifestyles.

Hilton also sees opportunities to attract visitors who increasingly prefer hotels offering practical conveniences alongside memorable vacation experiences.

The development will allow the company to evaluate how Tempo’s contemporary hospitality model performs within a tropical resort environment while strengthening its position in Thailand’s competitive accommodation market.

Thai Developer Sees Changing Guest Expectations

Sindhu Development Co., Ltd. believes the partnership responds to significant changes in international travel preferences.

Managing director Naphatsawan Kanchanamethakul has emphasized the importance of creating thoughtfully designed environments that deliver experiences extending beyond traditional hotel accommodations.

The company intends to combine Hilton’s international hospitality expertise with its understanding of Phuket’s evolving property and tourism landscape.

The collaboration also reflects a broader industry trend toward specialized hotel concepts designed for distinct traveler preferences rather than conventional resort formats.

Hilton Strengthens Its Growing Thailand Portfolio

The signing forms part of Hilton’s ambitious expansion across Asia Pacific, where it operates more than 200 luxury and lifestyle properties, with another 85 under development.

Thailand remains a priority market, with 34 operating Hilton hotels and 15 additional properties in its development pipeline.

In Phuket, Hilton already operates DoubleTree by Hilton Phuket Banthai Resort.

Upcoming developments include Andamanda Voyage Phuket under Curio Collection by Hilton, The Rawai Phuket under LXR Hotels & Resorts, and Mamaka Phuket under Tapestry Collection by Hilton.

The Bang Tao property will also participate in Hilton Honors, providing eligible members access to participating benefits such as discounted rates, complimentary standard Wi-Fi and digital services.

A New Chapter for Phuket Hospitality

Although the hotel’s anticipated opening remains four years away, its announcement reinforces Bang Tao’s growing importance within Phuket’s hospitality industry.

The project could intensify competition among lifestyle hotels while introducing additional accommodation choices for travelers seeking wellness, convenience and contemporary social experiences. Its long-term success will ultimately depend on how effectively Hilton adapts Tempo’s urban-inspired identity to Phuket’s tropical environment and delivers an experience that distinguishes the property from established resorts.
