A 31-year-old American tourist from California was found dead in his hotel room in Patong late Friday morning, prompting an official police investigation. The body was discovered at a property on Nanai Road after concerned hotel staff reported being unable to reach the guest. Rescue teams and Patong Police arrived promptly, securing the area while forensic specialists began their initial examination.

The man was found lying face down on his bed, dressed in a black T-shirt, black shorts, and white socks. Hotel staff raise alarm after failed contact attempts

The guest had reportedly checked into the hotel alone on September 19 and was due to check out on September 26. When staff were unable to contact him for several hours, they used a master key to enter his room, where they discovered his lifeless body. Police officers led by Lieutenant Colonel Chanarong Prakongkeo and rescue personnel from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation responded immediately. The man’s body was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for autopsy and toxicology testing to confirm the cause of death.

No foul play suspected as police review evidence

Investigators said that initial forensic examinations revealed no trauma or indications of violence. “At this stage, we are treating the case as an unexplained death pending further results,” Lt Col Chanarong confirmed. Officers are continuing to review hotel CCTV footage, interview staff, and examine whether any underlying medical conditions or substances may have played a role. The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok has been notified and is assisting in contacting the man’s next of kin.

Investigation continues with embassy cooperation

Police said the investigation could take several weeks as toxicology results are processed. Despite the tragedy, authorities emphasized that there is no indication of danger to other tourists or residents in Phuket. Law enforcement officials urged the public not to speculate online, stressing that premature conclusions could interfere with ongoing inquiries.

Hotel management expressed deep condolences to the victim’s family and stated that full cooperation is being extended to authorities. They also assured guests that all safety and emergency protocols remain strictly in place.

While the exact cause of death remains under review, investigators reaffirmed that there is no evidence of criminal activity or negligence. The case is being handled with great care to ensure accuracy and transparency. The outcome of the investigation will depend heavily on pending medical reports.
