An 84-year-old German visitor was discovered dead inside his hotel room near Kamala Beach on Sunday evening, prompting a swift response from local police and hotel staff. The man, identified only as Lothar from Kranz in Germany, had reportedly been unreachable for several hours before a concerned friend alerted the hotel’s front desk. Events Leading to The Tragic Find

According to Kamala Police Deputy Inspector Surasit Wandee, officers arrived at the property around 7 p.m. on November 30 after staff were unable to access the room. A Myanmar hotel maid had attempted to clean the room earlier in the day but found the door locked from the inside with a security chain. When the tourist’s friend later reported being unable to reach him by phone, staff attempted to enter again, only to face the same obstruction. The housekeeper ultimately climbed down from the fourth-floor fire escape to the balcony, where she spotted the unresponsive man inside.

Upon entering the room with police assistance, officers found the elderly tourist kneeling at the foot of the bed with his head and hands resting on the mattress. He was shirtless and appeared to have been dead for several hours. No signs of struggle or forced entry were detected, and authorities recovered medications for cholesterol and high blood pressure in the room. A forensic physician from Vachira Phuket Hospital performed an autopsy, and the German Embassy has been notified so relatives can be contacted.

Ongoing Safety Awareness for Visitors

While police continue routine follow-up procedures, the case points to the importance of timely welfare checks for elderly travelers, especially those managing chronic medical conditions. Incidents like this remind hotels and visitors alike of the need for quick communication when guests become unreachable, helping prevent delays in responding to emergencies or health-related crises.
