Phuket Hotels – Crime and Accidents: Shocking Morning Discovery in Phuket Hotel
Guests at a Phuket hotel were left horrified early in the morning when staff discovered the lifeless body of a 77-year-old Argentine tourist hanging from a fifth-floor balcony in Ratsada subdistrict. The scene drew police and forensic teams, who cordoned off the area as distraught guests watched from nearby balconies. According to this Phuket Hotels – Crime and Accidents news report, the victim, identified only as Mr. Roberto, had been staying at the property alone. Authorities believe the incident occurred in the early hours before hotel staff made the tragic discovery.

Police Rule Out Foul Play
Police Colonel Chatree Chookaew, Commander of Phuket City Police Station, led the investigation alongside forensic doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital and officers from the provincial forensic unit. A rope tied to the balcony railing and a chair placed nearby were found at the scene, along with a cigarette pack and lighter. Initial findings indicated self-inflicted wounds on the left wrist. The body was later transported to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
Security Footage and Embassy Notification
Investigators reviewed security camera recordings from the day prior to the discovery and confirmed there were no visitors entering the deceased’s room. No signs of a struggle or theft were detected, and all personal belongings remained untouched. Police have contacted the Argentine Embassy in Bangkok to notify the victim’s family and arrange for repatriation of the remains.
String of Tragic Incidents Involving Foreign Nationals
This incident marks one of the many growing cases of suicides involving a foreigner in Thailand. Earlier this year, among the many of such cases, was one involving a 41-year-old German man who reportedly took his own life in Nakhon Ratchasima amid mental health struggles. In another case, a 64-year-old American dental professor from Chulalongkorn University was found dead after falling from a high-rise condominium in Bangkok.
The recent series of tragedies has sparked growing concern among authorities and the tourism community, highlighting the need for greater mental health awareness and support for expatriates and long-stay visitors in Thailand. As Phuket welcomes thousands of tourists each month, officials emphasize the importance of hotels being vigilant in spotting signs of distress among guests.
